Motorola CP040 is a high quality and cost-effective analogue two way radio. CP040 is by a long stretch, one of the most popular two way radios ever made. Most popular with rental companies, construction and hospitality due to it's low cost, high quality audio and extremely tough build quality.

Motorola CP040 is a completely analogue radio, meaning it will work with all other analogue radios including the legendary GP340, as well as all Icom, Hytera, Kenwood and Entel analogue radios. CP040 can also be programmed to work with some digital radios, as long as the digital radio can be programmed to analogue mode.

Built to IP54 standards, the CP040 is ingress protected against dust whilst also being resistant against splashes of water. MIL-STD-810F means that the CP040 is rugged and reliable, this radio has passed the "Motorola Accelerated Life Test" that replicates five years of hard use in the field.

Standing at 12.7cm in height, 6.1cm in width, 4.2cm depth (with a standard sized battery) and a weight of just 240g, the Motorola CP040 is a full size commercial two way radio that's lightweight and fits comfortably in the user's hand.

CP040 can also be attached to a belt using either a belt clip or a carry case (see our dedicated Motorola CP040 accessories category). These two carrying solutions allow for the radio to be carried without obstruction yet still be within reach should it be needed urgently.

The CP040 has programmable buttons to allow for frequently used features to be accessible instantly. A common use for one of these buttons is a battery indicator, scan function or battery indicator that will alert all other radios within the range that a user may have a security or safety breach. Another function could be to switch scan on or off and finally the button can be programmed for high and low power. It's important to discuss anything you would like pre-programmed into the radios with us when placing your order.

Channel scanning is a very important feature of the CP040 or any radio with more than one channel that needs to be monitored. On the CP040 a channel of the radio is capable of being set as a scanning channel. This will run through the programmed channels looking for a transmission to ensure that no messages are missed.

Busy channel lockout is also a highly endorsed feature that will block anybody trying to transmit on a channel whilst someone is already talking. This ensuring that transmissions aren't crossed which would slow down the overall efficiency of the workforce. Although the lockout feature stops people from interjecting in transmissions, should the PTT button be accidentally pressed then there is also a time-out-timer which will end transmissions after a pre-set period of time (usually 30 seconds) in order to ensure channels aren't locked due to faults with radios.

Exclusively, whilst the standard price includes an antenna, spring belt clip and battery, everything can be removed so that you can purchase a body only to replace existing broken radios conveniently without the expensive of a the accessories you already have.

A single charger is also not included in the price meaning that you can choose to purchase one with the radio, or chose no single charger and then add a multi-way (6 or 12-wey) charger. See the charger options below.

Here are a few questions we get asked about the Motorola CP040.

What Exactly Do You Mean By Refurbished?

There are literally millions of Motorola CP040s in circulation. We reuse existing motherboards and add new mechanical components (switches), a new housing and all brand new accessories. The radio is as good as a brand new radio and you should expect the exact same lifespan. You could even argue it's better than a brand new radio in the respect that it's been 100% tested and assembled by a pair of human hands, which very few products are.

What Is The Warranty?

Almost all electronics goods fail within the first few days of being used. Since we assemble these and test them, we have, so far, a zero failure rate. Nevertheless, for peace of mind, we offer a 30-day "swap-out" warranty on the body. That means we will literally swap the offending radio body for another. If there is any damage to the housing, we might just swap the carcass. But no matter what, within 30-days, you'll get a different radio.

Accessories are subject to their own warranty and are not covered by the radio's warranty.

What About Motorola DP1400 - Hasn't It Replaced The CP040?

Yes. Essentially, that is right. You can choose between CP040 and the analogue version of the DP1400. CP040 is the cheaper option. But you can go for whatever you prefer. CP040 and the analogue version of the DP1400 are completely interchangeable radios, share the same audio accessories, batteries and chargers.

Can CP040 Be Used With Motorola DP1400?

Of course. Yes. However, it's important to note that CP040 is an analogue-only radio. DP1400 comes in two flavours; analogue and analogue-digital hybrid. CP040 works with the analogue without issue. CP040 will also work with the digital DP1400 but only on the analogue channels programmed into the DP1400. Contact us for more information on this.
