Kenwood NX-1300
The NX-1300DE3 is a UHF digital hybrid two-way radio from Kenwood. Radiotronics best seller in 2020, the NX-1300DE3 is the simple black box design of the three available models including the NX-1300DE2 and NX-1300DE.
The replacement for the hugely popular TK-D340, the NX-1300 is a mid-tier two way radio that can be used in a variety of work environments due to both its modern styling and exceptional durability. A channel capacity of 64 is more than sufficient for medium to large sized businesses, with these channels being able to be split over multiple zones in order to give factions of your business their own private channels. Due to the NX-1300 having the potential to be a analogue/digital hybrid due to the optional upgrade to DMR or NEXEDGE, this allows for it to be used as a transitional radio when implementing a new system, meaning that should you have working older analogue radios they will work alongside your new radios until they need to be replaced.
With an IP55 protection rating this ensure that the NX-1300 not only has a limited Ingres against dust intrusion but is also safeguarded against jets of water from all angles. Having been tested to MIL-STD-810 C/D/E/F/G alongside the NX-1300's Ingres protection rating, this ensures that the radio is certified for use in all magnitudes of weather conditions and is able to continuously operate in temperatures as low as -30°C through to 60°C.
The NX-1300 has an amass of features that aide with both usability of the radio and the safety of operators at work. VOX Voice Activation is a feature that can be used when you have a compatible accessory, allowing for your radio to be used hands free as the radio begins transmitting when you begin to speak, such a feature is ideal for environments whereby both hands are required when completing a job. An emergency button can be programmed to the NX-1300 as a safety precaution for your workers, should a situation arise whereby an operator has a safety or security issue then pressing this button will quickly notify other radios within the fleet that a worker may be in danger. Alongside this emergency button that is manually pressed, the NX-1300 can also be programmed with the feature Lone Worker. This feature will monitor the activity levels of the radio and should it be inactive for a pre-programmed amount of time a beep will sound, if this beep remains non-responded to then an alarm will be sent to other radios within the network to let workers now there may be an issue.
Kenwood Charging Station
Marine Radios UK offers this exclusive charging station that allows single charger pods (usually purchased with the radios) to be attached to the platfrom to make your own 6-way charger.

Kenwood NX-1300D Features Explained
Taken from our knowledge base, we explain each feature of the Kenwood NX-1300D.
Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA)
TDMA is a technology that allows several users to share the same frequency channel by dividing the signal into different time slots. With DMR this is two time slots to every 12.5KHz frequency channel allocation.
Before DMR every 12.5KHz frequency allocation could carry just one broadcast of RF traffic. Now with DMR 12.5KHz bandwidth allows two voice channels.
See the video for an explanation on how this works.

Two Way Radio Transmit Interrupt
Transmit interrupt ensures that critical message gets through.
Transmit interrupt allows for a priority message to be sent to all radios within your network. Interrupting all ongoing conversations, this feature is commonly used in emergency situations or as a way to offer new instructions to workers.
When purchasing two way radios you can choose to only have this feature programmed to radios that will be used by senior members of staff. This minimizes the potential for it to be abused by workers, meaning that should it ever need to be used all members of staff will be aware of its importance.

Voice Activation (VOX)
VOX (voice-operated exchange), more commonly known as Voice Activation, allows the two way radio's microphone and PTT button to be activated by simply speaking into the radio.
How To Use VOX
Most two way radios' voice activation feature only works via an external VOX capable earpiece or headset. Once connected, you simply start speaking and the two way radio will automatically initiate the transmission. When there is no longer any audio coming via your earpiece or headset, the two way radio automatically disengages the PTT.
Activating VOX
Most business grade licence exempt two way radios allow activating the voice activation feature via a button combination on the radio; or by simply plugging in a vox capable earpiece or headset. However, some more complex two way radios, such as our licensed two way radios will require some reprogramming.
VOX Drawbacks
Since VOX works by listening out for audio via the attached accessory, background noise that's near to the sound of a human voice will also activate it. That means practically anything can activate the voice activation.

Channel Scanning
Channel scanning enables the user to monitor a number of channels and respond when a transmission comes through. The scan feature can usually be programmed to include or exclude channels from the scan. Scanning fewer channels makes the scan faster. Should a transmission be found, your radio will stop and pause giving the operator the chance to respond to the transmission before continuing its cycle through the selected channels.
When programming your radio, it is possible to include or exclude channels from the scan, this allows for channels of highest priority to be added meaning that staff members never miss an important transmission. Channel scanning is an ideal choice in environments where updates are frequently given, this allowing for all of your members of staff to remain alert to changing conditions.
Digital hybrid radios can usually scan either or both digital and analogue channels simultaneously. This allows for an extremely flexible scan facility where the user can monitor many channels across both analogue and digital modes.

Digital Basic Privacy
Digital Basic Privacy ensures that any communications made using your two way radios are protected against the potential for eavesdropping. Although this level of protection is very basic it still offers a degree of protection against your communications being listened in on by unwelcome parties.
Basic Privacy uses a fixed key which is set when the radio is programmed. There are 255 potential keys to be chosen from, this meaning that this is still a fairly simple privacy option for your devices. In order for an eavesdropper to listen in to your conversations they would require your exact frequencies, whilst also knowing the exact key that you have used for privacy.
The main reason for purchasing licensed two way radios is the privacy that they offer over license exempt devices. When communicating in work environments where there is the potential for sensitive information to be passed over the airwaves, having at least a basic level of privacy ensures that due diligence has been taken to keep work communications in house.

Lone Worker
Lone Worker is a feature found on many two way radios where it's able to send a pre-determined signal, for example a distress call or alarm, to other radios in range, Lone Worker requires some type of interaction from the radio user after a period of radio inactivity.
An example of this is the radio can be set to require the radio operator to interact with his or her radio once every 30 minutes. If they fail to do so, their radio will start making an audible sound. If there is still no interaction with his or her radio within 1 further minute, a alarm will sound to other team members to tell them a team member is not responding to Lone Worker.
The supervisor can then dispatch another team member to the non-response team member's last known location to offer assistance.
