The IC-F62D is a VHF two-way radio from Icom. For its compact size this radio is packed full of features, with 512 channels available to be programmed the IC-F62D packs a punch for its small stature. Aesthetically the radio is fairly simple, with a Dot-Matrix character display and 4 buttons located below navigation of menus and such is simple. On the top of the radio there is both a volume/power and channel selector knobs whilst also being home to a programmable emergency button and LED status indicator.

Available to operate in both analogue and digital mode, mixed mode operation allows for the IC-F62D to be used when transitioning from an analogue to digital system, programming the original analogue channels into your new radios until all analogue radios are out of circulation. The IC-F62D due to being digital is capable of performing individual as well as group calls, this allows for private conversations to be had should a sensitive subject need to be spoken about. As mentioned groups calls are a possibility and with the IC-F62D latecomers are able to join in a call if and when required.

Other features that are available to use with the IC-F62D include safety features like Man Down and Lone Worker, both working in a similar way with the latter monitoring the activity levels of the radio, if no activity is noted then an alert will be sent to the radio and if this is still not responded to then an alarm will be sent to all other radios within the network to let them know a colleague is potentially injured or in trouble.

A new feature that isn’t present on many radios is the ability to perform over the air programming, this allows for radios to remain in circulation whilst updates are applied leading to no down time.
