The IC-F52D is part of Icom’s latest IDAS digital two-way radio range. An extremely compact radio this model from Icom stands at just 91mm in height 56mm in width and 29mm in depth with a weight of just 230g, this whilst having the standard BP-290 1800mAh Li-Ion battery attached. Due to its low weight and small stature the IC-F52D is easy to carry, there are many options available including hand straps, belt clip and also both fully and half covered leather carry cases.

This radio is capable of performing mixed mode operation. This would be ideal should you have existing analogue radios but want to slowly implement some new digital radios into circulation, with both analogue and digital channels programmed once all analogue radios are removed you can then convert the analogue channels on your IC-F52D radios to all digital.

The IC-F52D is built to IP67 protection standard, this further reiterating its ability to perform in almost any working environment. This rating ensures that the radio not only has a full Ingres protection against dust intrusion, but is also safeguarded against submersion in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. Alongside its Ingres protection rating the IC-F52D is also built to MIL-STD-810 G, this ensures that the radio has resistance against such factors as shock, vibration and a temperature range from as low as -30°C through to 50°C.

Although the IC-F52D is small in stature the physical aspects of the radio aren’t lacking. A 14 Dot-Matrix character display show status icons to allow users to see at a glance what channel they are broadcasting on or the current battery life and signal strength. On top of the radio is a volume/power knob and also a channel selector knob, this allowing the user to easily switch between channels or change the broadcasting volume. Just below the IC-F52D’s screen are 4 separate buttons each with multiple different uses. The left hand side button allows the user to access the menus or can be used as an “OK” button, the centre two are programmable to specific features whilst also acting as navigation keys and the button to the right allows the user to go back one step or return to the home screen completely.
