Icom IC-F2000 Detailed Information
The IC-F2000 is a UHF two-way radio from Icom. Although this is classed as Icom’s entry-level radio it is still packed with features and functionality. An extremely rugged radio the IC-F2000 has an IP67 protection rating, something that isn’t commonly seen with radios at this price point. This protection rating ensures that the IC-F2000 has a full Ingres protection against dust whilst also being fully submergible in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.
This radio has 16 analogue channels which allow for sufficient communications between a small to medium-sized team. A channel scan can be programmed into one of the channels allowing for the user to hear any transmissions that they may have otherwise missed, when this channel is selected the radio will continually rotate through the programmed frequencies. The IC-F2000 can be programmed to have channel announcement, this is a common feature that people request as it gives the operator added security that they are transmitting on the correct channel should they be using the radio in environments with low lighting conditions.
The IC-F2000 takes on the commonly referred to “black box” design due to its no thrills aesthetics. The face of the radio features a microphone and a 36mm speaker that can provide 800mW audio, this speaker also has a built-in BTL amplifier that is able to double the audio output allowing for transmissions to be heard even in noisy environments. Atop of the IC-F2000 are the usual suspects with the antenna, volume/power knob and also a channel selector knob with numbered markings. On the left hand side of the radio there is a large textured push to talk button allowing for it to be easily found even in darker environments, whilst below this are also two programmable buttons. Other features of the radio include accessory connectors on the right hand side and a space to attach a belt clip on batteries connected.
Icom IC-F2000 Features
- IP67 Waterproof and Dust-Tight: This radio can be used safely in high humidity areas including swimming pools. It's also suitable for outdoors in the rain use by security and stewards.
- 14 Hours Continuous Use: The F1000/F2000 can be used for a maximum of 14 hours* continuously using the supplied battery pack fully charged and in power-save mode.
* Calculation: * RX : TX : Standby => 5 : 5 : 90. - Channel Announcement: When you rotate the channel / rotary selector, the radio verbally announces the channel you've selected. This is so you can change channel when the radio is hidden discreetly and you're using an earpiece or headset.
- Loud and Clear: The F2000 has a large 36mm front speaker which gives an impressive 800mW of audio power. The F1000 also has a built in bridged-mono transformer-less BTL amplifier delivering loud and intelligible audio to a radio operator in a noisy environment.
- Compact, lightweight "handportable" business radio
- Available in 6 versions to suit business requirements
- IP67 Waterproof and Dust-tight Protection (1 metre depth for 30 mins)
- Built-in Motion Sensor (man down feature)
With a built-in motion sensor, the IC-F1000/F2000 series can detect its position, state of motion and non-motion and can send an emergency signal. The motion function detects if the transceiver is moving or shaking, for example, during a chase. Lone worker and man down functions are programmable. - Easy to Hear in a Noisy Environment
The large 36mm speaker of the transceiver provides clear companded 800 mW audio. The built-in BTL amplifier doubles the audio output power and delivers loud and intelligible voice to a radio operator working in noisy environments. - Inversion Voice Scrambler
The built-in inversion voice scrambler provides secure conversation. Up to 16 codes are selectable. - 14 Hours of Operating Time with Supplied Waterproof Battery (Battery Options)
- Quiet Stand-by and More
The IC-F1000/F2000 series has built-in 2-Tone, 5-Tone, CTCSS and DTCS signalling capabilities for group communication and selective calling. - Channel Announcement
When you rotate the channel knob, the radio announces the channel number. Convenient for making radio adjustments without having to look at the radio. - 8 DTMF autodial memories
- BIIS PTT ID and emergency call
- “Shift key” function increases number of programmable key assignments
- Surveillance function
- Escalating alarm

Icom IC-F2000 Features Explained
Taken from our knowledge base, we explain each feature of the Icom IC-F2000.
Two Way Radio Man Down
Know instantly if a team member falls...
Man Down provides remote monitoring of workers by detecting if their radio is upright, or if the radio is on it's side assumes there may be a problem. Radios which support Man Down are fitted with an accelerometer (or similar device) which allows them to detect the orientation of the radio.
If somebody slips or falls, they are likely to be on their side, Man Down will automatically detect this, activate and transmit an alert to call for help from a supervisor or other team members.
This works is almost the same way as your smart phone which knows if you have it positioned portrait mode or landscape mode. See this video to see how man down works.

Lone Worker
Lone Worker is a feature found on many two way radios where it's able to send a pre-determined signal, for example a distress call or alarm, to other radios in range, Lone Worker requires some type of interaction from the radio user after a period of radio inactivity.
An example of this is the radio can be set to require the radio operator to interact with his or her radio once every 30 minutes. If they fail to do so, their radio will start making an audible sound. If there is still no interaction with his or her radio within 1 further minute, a alarm will sound to other team members to tell them a team member is not responding to Lone Worker.
The supervisor can then dispatch another team member to the non-response team member's last known location to offer assistance.

Voice Activation (VOX)
VOX (voice-operated exchange), more commonly known as Voice Activation, allows the two way radio's microphone and PTT button to be activated by simply speaking into the radio.
How To Use VOX
Most two way radios' voice activation feature only works via an external VOX capable earpiece or headset. Once connected, you simply start speaking and the two way radio will automatically initiate the transmission. When there is no longer any audio coming via your earpiece or headset, the two way radio automatically disengages the PTT.
Activating VOX
Most business grade licence exempt two way radios allow activating the voice activation feature via a button combination on the radio; or by simply plugging in a vox capable earpiece or headset. However, some more complex two way radios, such as our licensed two way radios will require some reprogramming.
VOX Drawbacks
Since VOX works by listening out for audio via the attached accessory, background noise that's near to the sound of a human voice will also activate it. That means practically anything can activate the voice activation.
